Tater Tot Casserole

I think everyone might have a recipe for Tater Tot Casserole, but I had to blog it anyhow.  I didn’t grow up eating this, so it’s still a novelty food at our house.

I got this recipe from my BFF, Kasey, after she made it for us for the birth of one of our babies.  Mmm, I think her version is EXTRA good!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef, Seasoned Generously With Salt And Pepper
  • 1 whole Onion, Chopped
  • 1 can ( 26 Oz Family Sized ) Cream Of Mushroom Soup
  • ½ a can of Milk (use Your Green Bean Can)
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheese
  • 2 cans (14 Oz Each) Cut Green Beans, Drained
  • 1 container (6 Oz Size) French’s French Fried Onions
  • 4 pounds Frozen Tater Tots
  • Seasoned Salt, To Taste

Preheat oven to 350 F.

In a large family-sized skillet over medium heat, brown meat and chopped onion adding salt and pepper to taste. Once beef is browned, drain off any grease. Add soup, milk and cheese. Stir in half of the French Fried Onions, and the drained green beans.

Spray an over-sized casserole dish with non-stick spray, I used my deep dish rectangle baker from Pampered Chef. Place a single layer of tater tots in a row, covering the bottom of your pan completely, then cover with the meat mixture. Add another layer of tater tots until meat mixture is covered, sprinkled lightly with Season Salt to taste.

Some people sprinkle their Tater Tots randomly, but I think they taste best placed neatly in rows with no meat layer showing.

  OCD tastes good, people!

Top evenly with remaining French Fried Onions. Bake at 350 F uncovered for 45-60 minutes, or until tater tots are golden brown.

We like to serve this with Applesauce only since the veggie is already in there.

Easy schmeasy!

  1. Schwans sells these cheesy tater tots that are awesome. I have always wanted to try tater tot casserole with them. However they always seem to get eaten before I coordinate. Oops!

I adore hearing from you, comment away! :)
