Bestie Banana Bread

A lot of you have been inquiring as to how my children have handled the “Toy Closet Lock Down”.

Um, surprisingly well?  I don’t know whether to be proud or disappointed at how well they adjusted.  It’s been eye-opening to say the least.  They played WONDERFULLY today!  They read books, painted the bricks with water, made race tracks with the 1 lone race car that escaped lock up and played with the Train table.  And when it was lunch time and time to pick up? Scarcely a mess to be seen.

It. Was. Awesome.

You know, this re-motivates me to really work on “crowd control” so to speak.  We used to have a “One Toy Basket Out At A Time” rule and it had to get picked up and put away before you could get the next basket out.  Well, that worked perfect with 1 kid, by 2 kids, we had to loosen up a bit and by the 3rd…..A one-at a-time basket rule, what’s that?

Hmm, wonder how many more days I can keep those toys locked up before it’s just plain mean????? Maybe through Friday? hee hee 🙂  I’ll keep you posted if anything new develops, and to those who asked, Avery has YET to cry about the whole thing.  She walked up to the toy closet looked up at the sign, removed her hand from the door knob and said very matter of factly, “Nope, no toys today” and marched away to do something else.

Stubborn child, just like her daddy!

“I tan’t heo you.”

Translated : “ I can’t hear you {cause I am stubborn like my daddy}.”

Haha, not really, she was just telling me “It’s LOUD!”  And it was. 🙂

I have a delicious recipe to share with you today.  This recipe, along with my kiddos picture and short “interview” are featured on Picture Me Cooking today.  How FUN!  Please take time to check it out!

064  This Banana bread recipe was given to me by my best friend, Kasey, who insisted it was the best she had ever tasted.

WELL.  You know how we all have a favorite banana bread recipe?

I was a bit skeptical that it was the best EVER, but once I read sour cream on the ingredient list, decided it was worth a shot.  Well, that and the fact that my best friend was going to ASK me, “Sooo, did you make it?”

Yes, I made it.  In fact, I’ve made it like 6 times, since.  This is in fact the BEST banana bread I have ever had.

My little chefs are usually pretty eager to help when it comes to a baking project!  When I asked them if they wanted to make banana bread, they raaaan to get their aprons on. Tylan insisted he needed his Chef’s hat too!

Where’s Paxton you ask?  Oh, you know, getting into trouble, as usual!

“I want to come help! Sitting in this highchair is boring!!!”

For my first trick, I’ll balance on the tray, while looking adorable…..”

“Oh dear. You seem a bit worked up, mommy. You don’t like my trick? What does ‘SITDOWNSITDOWNSITDOWN’, mean?”

“That was a cool trick, huh mom?!

Yeah. I’m big stuff you know.”

*Excuse the “naked” high chair, Pax got food all over the cloth cover,
go figure, so it was in the wash!

SOOOO, without further adieu, or any more of Paxton’s antics, I give you…..

Kasey’s Top 10 for 2011

Hi….I am Tonya’s best friend, her BFF, the “Bestie”.  You know, like in the “Bestie Banana Bread” recipe Tonya shared with you from my kitchen to yours…….

Bestie Banana Bread

But you can just call me Kasey.

I am 30 years old! (for one more day)  You may remember that Tonya blogged my surprise Birthday party last December.

Check it out here, it was so fun!  Can’t I just turn 30 again this year?!?!?!?!?!

The hunka-hunka hottie on the left is my husband, Monty.

He is 11 years older than I and he is my perfect match! He makes me laugh harder than anyone I know, and we are working hard to become each other’s #1 human priority.

We have 3 children…..

Let me re-phrase that, we have 3 gorgeous, brilliant, delightful children.

Karter is 5, and Kamilyn is 2 & Kolby is 6.

We live on a farm where I grew up.  It’s been in my family for several generations.

If I could fly like a bird I could be to Tonya’s house in less than 5 minutes!

(This makes me smile!) Smile

I love Jesus, I love my family, I love Tonya. She is the friend that one rarely finds, and the sister I always wished for.  She is the perfect blend of splendid.

So, I have to tell you, since this beloved blog began, I have been asked in Dillons, Kwik shops, Wal-Mart, Applebee’s, the Mall, and everywhere….

You’re Tonya’s best friend, right?….Is SHE for REAL?”

At first I had to think…Hmmm….is she?

She is consistently sunshine! She is a “glass half full” kinda gal. When it is raining in my world…she pours her sunshine over me and makes a rainbow.

Is it hard to listen to her always happy? How in the world could I NOT appreciate her rays of happiness….should I ask her to be grumpy? A “downer”, or a “drag”?

I AM HUMAN!!! I am of sin nature, so I would be lying if I told you that there aren’t times that I get frustrated or jealous. There are moments when I ask “Really Tonya?!?” But those thoughts aren’t from the Lord.

Tonya is the real deal. She tries each day with an honest heart. Her desire is to follow Jesus.  She honors her husband, and she works each and everyday to be the mother God has called her to be.

When I think back over the past 12 years of my life, I see God’s hand at work in many areas of my life. He always protected me. But I must say He has used Tonya as a daily tool in my life. As good as any daily devotion-she has taught me, she has led by example what I desired to be as a wife and mother. In many ways I feel like God used her to save me from destruction. Praise be His name!!!

So you see, when asked these questions, when faced with rebuttal to some pretty BIG statements about this person in my life….I have to this to say:

Tonya is real.  She cries, she laughs, she hurts, she loves, and she listens. She is honest.  She loves the Lord.  Her greatest flaw in my opinion, is that she believes that other’s intentions are as real as her own.  But, best of all……she is MY BEST FRIEND!

Phew, that was a big intro, right?! Now that you and I are better acquainted, I am excited to share something with you today:

My Top 10 Favorite Things for 2011!

Like Oprah, get it?! Smile

{Except there are not keys to your new car taped under your seat, sorry!}

Number 10- Heavenly Yeast Dinner Rolls

Sorry I don’t have my own photo, we gobbled them all up before I could get a shot.  This photo is property of Audrey style on Tasty Kitchen.  Her rolls are simple, easy, & fool-proof!!!! You CAN conquer your fear of yeast, and these are just the rolls to practice with!

9- Pinterest

Come see me!

And that is all I have to say about that Pinteresting Subject!  😉

8- Dry Shampoo

Ok Mommy’s!!!! Don’t have time to shampoo today?  Here is your answer….

TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo!

Simply spray, style and hit the road!!!

Good-bye Limp, Greasy Hair, Hello Hot Momma!

Ask Tonya….it really works and we neither one could be without it!!!

7- Heaven is FOR REAL

This book I read over one afternoon’s naptime! It just made me SO excited about Heaven!! It is a “life-changing” book, go get it and read it! It’s sold here.

6- Real Cheesecake

You know, the kind you make in Springform pan……

Caramel Apple Cheesecake

There are so many good recipes out there that use Springform Pans! Even savory cheesecakes for dipping tortilla chips in, like this Zesty Cheesecake.  {This one is YUMMY!}  Pampered Chef has a great one, let me know if I can order it for you. (No pressure!)  🙂

5- My Rubbermaid Mop from Home Depot

Do you have floors? Well, then you need one of these!  LOL Smile

Tonya’s momma, who has a house cleaning business, introduced me to this AMAZING mop! You can mop wet or dry, and when you are done, just throw it in the washer for next time! It is SO SO nice! I’d say you trust someone in the profession of cleaning to pick out your mop for you……this is THE ONE! It is truly all you need!!

*Helpful hint: do not wash this mop with any softeners to prevent smearing next time.

4- Smell good spray from Walmart with matching oil & woodwicks.

I get SO many compliments on the smell in my home. My 6-year-old has allergies, which keeps me from burning candles.  A couple of years ago I thought I’d try this spray. Tonya had some and she set me up with a sample, it didn’t bother his allergies…so it was a winner!!! I pair it with the woodwicks and it is pure Heaven!!!  They have TONS of different scents too.

3- Slipper socks from Old Navy, only $5!

(Photo property of Old Navy)

I actually got my pair 30% off and with free shipping! These slippers have grippers on the bottom and they are chenille…like putting your foot into luxury all day long.

2- Allegiant Air

I am able to see my brother and his family for such a reasonable and affordable price! What precious memories are made because of Allegiant’s cheap airfare.

And my number 1 FAVORITE thing for 2011 is………….

1-The Grocery Game!!!

The Grocery Game is TOO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!  I love it!  Tons of deals just waiting to be discovered, you can read more about it here.

So I know that many of you have your own list of favorites, I’d love to hear them! By nature, I am not the kind of gal that enjoys daily or weekly tasks….so I am always looking for ways to make them extra fun and exciting!

Well, thanks for letting me stop by!  It was so nice to meet you all!

I’ll be back, maybe even next year with my Top 10 for 2012?!?!?! 🙂

Have a wonder-filled day today!

It Works For Me!

I’d like to jump in here on my previously scheduled post, to touch on a little issue I am currently dealing with:

If there is a recipe on my site that is “yours” and I have not cited you as the source, first let me apologize, it is never done intentionally.  If I find a post on a fellow bloggers site, I am SURE to link us up!  In fact, most of the time I’ll email you and say, “I am sharing a recipe of yours today! Thanks for a keeper!”

2nd, you have to remember, I have been collecting recipes for over 10 years, some from emails, some from family recipe cards, some I have no idea where they came from….the source is NOT always passed along with the recipe to me.

The fact of the matter is:

People love food and they love to share food…PERIOD.

I have been turned in for copyright infringement over a cookie, A COOKIE!  to a favorite recipe site of mine.  I have taken care of it, and they understood my side of the story.  They were actually VERY nice about it, saying sorry she is being threatening, and to please not let this stop me from continuing to share recipes on their site.

Contrary to what this woman said, I just want you to know I have NEVER EVER claimed to have invented the recipes on my site, I don’t enjoy that side of recipes. Sure, I’ll tweak a recipe, but I don’t like to start from ground zero and create my own, EVER.  Not my thing.  So, when I share a recipe with you, its because we have found a “winner” at our house, end of story.

I am sad people have to take such self-seeking paths, like scowering the internet for “Their Recipe” to see if they were mentioned as the creator or not.   Since there are 417,000 sites with this particular cookie mentioned, that is a lot of time and work to contact all those people to make sure they are giving her credit, and using threatening comments and hateful words to demand it, REALLY?!  Asking nicely sure goes a lot further!

Here ‘s the thing about recipes, they all come from someone, sometime “inventing it”.  I can give you our FAVORITE casserole from my Aunt Regena, and credit her because she gave it to me, but who knows how many people ago the recipe was created!  I can give my best friend credit for Bestie Banana Bread, but who knows how many years ago the inventors name was dropped, as recipe passed from friend to friend! It is my understanding, that copyright laws protect the recipe INVENTOR, not the recipe share-er.

After Dale shared this verse with me:  Romans 12:18 “Do all you can to live at peace with everyone….”  I knew what I was being asked to do, so I linked up my blog to hers to keep the peace, even though she was not the one that gave me the recipe.  If I have to scout out recipe inventors just to share our “keeper” recipes on here, I am done with the food part of this blog! That is WAY too much to ask!!!!!

Anyhow, lets all choose happy sunshine, and get on to the regularly scheduled post!!!! 🙂

I’ve always wanted to do a Works For Me Wednesday Post, but most of the time I can’t think of anything clever that works for me.

Then it hit me…..LAUNDRY! I can tell what works for us with laundry x 6 people;  5 who are VERY VERY messy, but I will not name names or anything…..daledestinytylanaverypaxton.

Sooo, I’ve tried folding laundry on the dinner table, super annoying to deal with in the supper/homework rush.

I’ve tried folding laundry onto the living room furniture, which worked great until kids 2, 3 and 4 arrived. After that, I ran out of furniture!

I’ve heard of people folding on the bed, but if you know my house, you know that my laundry room is a bazillion feet away from the master bedroom.

So, instead, I just take a few extra minutes after the dryer is done, to stand there at the dryer door, and fold directly into the 6 baskets on the laundry room floor.  Each person has their own basket, so once the last load is folded, it’s totally ready to go to each child’s room, to be put away as part of after school or weekend chores.

laundry after

The stuff you see flopped over the edges are hanging clothes, they will get put on hangers ASAP.  This is a very wrinkle free way to do laundry since it goes straight from the dryer to neatly folded in, or draped over a basket.

Also, don’t give into temptation to re-start the dryer just to give yourself some more time (GUILTY!)….did you know that running your washer and dryer accounts for around $30 of your electric bill as it is?  Also, did you know if you shake each item out before you throw it in, that it will dry better, faster?! (Thanks for the tip, Mrs. Baker!)

This method may not work for you,  but it works for me!  (which is why they call it “Works for ME Wednesday” instead of “Works for YOU Wednesday”!)  🙂
