Christmas Celebrations

We’ve had a fun couple of days of Christmas Celebrations! Usually, when we are all said and done, we have had 6 celebrations between Christmas and New Years.

The more the merrier, right?!

Tell that to my tired kids.  🙂

No, they loved it!  We can just tell they are done for a bit.  It’ll be nice to spend a few quiet days at home, playing with new things, before we have the next few get-together’s!

Here are photos from our first few celebrations, I’ll share the rest tomorrow….

Happy Monday Everyone!  As you head out to grab some after-Christmas bargains remember, the best way to double your money is just fold it up and put it back in your pocket!

Or if you are me and great deals are next to impossible to walk away from, just don’t go shopping in the first place.

Ta-da!  What a light bulb moment!  Dale would be so proud to know I just wrote that.

So today, I choose to stay home, so we can continue to work towards being debt free.  And let’s be real……I’d SO be out there shopping for Birthday’s and Christmases to come if I could.  With bells on.  Happily swipeing my debit card knowing I was saving myself tons of money in the future.

<SIGH>  Sometimes its hard to make a right choice.

Mary, Did You Know?

We recently watched the Nativity story together as a family.  Wow!  It stopped me in my tracks, and although it was hard to understand the words at times, touched my heart in a very real way.

One Family, One Journey.  One Child who would change the world forever.

It was so good for me to emotionally go on that journey with Mary & Joseph.  Can you imagine how difficult it was for Mary, an unwed teen, to be scoffed by her friends who think she’s nuts, when she says she has never been with a man, but is pregnant anyways?  Or having to tell her parents the big news:  Did she wait until she was showing, or tell them right away?

How about feeling the threat of DEATH by stoning looming over her head, should Joseph choose to file charges against her.  I wonder,  since her parents choose Joseph as betrothed, does she even know him well at this point?  Or love him?  Does she know enough about him to think he’ll believe her story?  How scary to not know what will happen next!

Although Joseph’s initial reaction was to break the engagement, totally acceptable in that day, he treated Mary with such kindness.  What a gentleman!  He didn’t want to cause her further shame, so he decided to act quietly.  I am so glad God chose to send an angel to Joseph in a dream, to verify Mary’s story, so he could be reassured that his marriage to her was God’s will. When the angel explained that the child within Mary was indeed conceived by the Holy Spirit, that his name would be Jesus and that he was the Messiah, God with us, did he freak out!?  Did he sit in wonder and awe?  Do you think he lay awake the rest of the night thinking of what his life with Mary was going to be like?  Parents of THE MESSIAH?  That is some heavy thinking for the middle of the night!  He willingly took Mary to be his wife, knowing they were being looked down upon in their town.  Maybe this noble quality is one of the reasons God chose Joseph to be the earthly father of Jesus.

And later, as they are married and traveling to Bethlehem,  I was shocked to see Joseph’s bloody, calloused feet.  But why wouldn’t they be?  They walked the approximately 60-90 miles to Bethlehem, (like you walking to Wichita or past, except over hills, valleys and rough terrain) where the census was taken.

Poor Mary, riding or walking that long journey, big and pregnant.  I bet her baby pressed on her bladder, making them stop often, I bet the heat was unbearable at times, I bet nights were spent in discomfort, sleeping on the hard ground.  Going into labor in a town far away from her mother and all things familiar.  A newly married young woman, who had never been intimate with a man, giving birth to her first child, who also just happens to be the Saviour of the world!!!!

Do you remember that feeling as you realized you were about to give birth to your first-born?  Those emotions you felt, as you anticipated, yet dreaded the labor part.  Did she cry for her momma?  Did she squeeze Joseph’s hand as hard as she could as she contracted?  Was he a good coach?  Did she trust him to help safely deliver this precious child in a stable, or was she afraid even though the angel said, “fear not”?

Oh, the joy she must have felt, as she lifted that precious child in her arms, counted his ten tiny fingers and toes, and marvelled at all that had just occurred.  How overwhelmed she must have been, as she looked around their humble dwelling, wondering what she had to offer the King of Kings?  Wondering about this babe, who would grow into a toddler full of questions.  When would they know, that he knew, He was the King of Kings?  A look in his eye?  The words from his mouth?  Did she wonder what kind of challenges that would create?

And what about when all those stinky Shepherds showed up?  Exhausted and emotional, what was she feeling as they came, and touched her new baby? You know how protective first time moms are!  Did she wish she could have them wash up first?

As they left, they were still praising and glorifying God, but sweet Mary kept quiet, treasuring their words and pondering them in her heart. Don’t you think at that moment, it must have been beyond her ability to grasp, that sleeping in her arms—the precious child she had just worked so hard to bring into the world—was the Savior of the world.  Wow!

How real everything becomes, as you watch in this movie, and see those precious little lives lost as Herod, in fear, commands all the baby boys under the age of 2 to be killed.  Oh, the heartache of those mothers, screaming as their baby sons were ripped from their arms and slain. I have to wonder, as Mary and Joseph were told by the angel to flee in the night to safety, how old was Jesus at the time?  Did her pumping adrenaline kick in, did those ‘mother bear’ instincts get her through?  Or was she paralyzed with fear, and having to be prompted by Joseph to stop crying and pack  so they could go?  How did she manage?  I can’t imagine what she was feeling, still in a foreign land away from home, now fleeing to Egypt to be refugees there.  And another dream tells them to return back home, FINALLY!  Who knows how many years later?!  What a STRONG woman!

Watching this movie was eye-opening to say the least.

It is my hope, that this Christmas, you will celebrate the humble beginnings of our Lord and King.  And remember, just how real this was to a newlywed couple in Bethlehem, who experienced this day, a life changing, WORLD changing moment…..as they held our Lord and Saviour in their arms and kissed his sweet head.

May Jesus be real to you today, as you celebrate His birth.

Merry Christmas & Happy Birthday, Jesus!!

Blessings to you and yours,

Mary Did You Know”

[Originally written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene]

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great, I Am.

T’was the Night Before Jesus Came

T’was the Night Before Jesus Came…

…and all through the house,
Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care,
in hopes that Jesus would not come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And mom in her rocker and baby on her lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the Window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray,
I knew in a moment this must be The Day!

The light of His face made me cover my head.
It was Jesus, returning just like He’d said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life which He held in His hand,
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name’
When He said, “It’s not here” my head hung in shame.

The people whose name had been written with love,
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound,
While all the rest were left standing around.

I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear,
The coming of Jesus is drawing ever so near.
There’s only one life and when comes the last call,
We’ll find that the Bible was true after all!

Revelation 21:27

Why Would God Become A MAN?

This story was too good not to share.  What a great mental picture, of why God sent us Jesus!
May Jesus continue to be the reason for the Season in your home….
~T
WHY WOULD GOD BECOME A MAN?

There was once a man who didn’t believe in God, and he didn’t hesitate to let others know how he felt about religion and religious holidays, like Christmas.

His wife, however, did believe, and she raised their children to also have faith in God and Jesus, despite his disparaging comments.

One snowy Christmas Eve, his wife was taking their children to a Christmas Eve service in the farm community in which they  lived. She asked him to come, but he refused. “That story is nonsense!”  he said. “Why would God lower Himself to come to Earth as a man?  That’s ridiculous!” So she and the children left, and he stayed home.

A while later, the winds grew stronger and the snow turned into a blizzard-like conditions. As the man looked out the window, all he saw was blinding snow. He sat down to relax before the fire for the evening hoping his wife would make it home safe and sound. Then he heard a loud thump.  Something had hit the window.

Then another thump.  He looked out, but couldn’t see more than a few feet.  As the snow let up a little, he bundled up, and ventured outside to see what or who, could have been beating on his window.

In the field near his house he saw a flock of wild geese. Apparently they had been flying south for the winter when they got caught in the snowstorm and could not go on. They were lost and stranded on his farm, with no food or shelter. They just flapped their wings and flew around the field in low circles, blindly and aimlessly.  A couple of them had flown into his window, it seemed.

The man felt sorry for the geese and wanted to help them. The barn would be a great place for them to stay, he thought.  It is warm and safe; surely they could spend the night and wait out the storm. So he walked over to the barn and opened the doors wide, then watched and waited, hoping they would notice the open barn and go inside. But the geese just fluttered around aimlessly and did not seem to notice the barn or realize what it could mean for them. The man tried to get their attention, but that just seemed to scare them and they moved further away.  He went into the house and came back out with some bread, broke it up, and made a bread crumbs trail leading to the barn.  They still didn’t catch on. Now he was getting frustrated.  He got behind them and tried to shoo them toward the barn, but they only got more scared and scattered in every direction except toward the barn.  Nothing he did could get them to go into the barn where they would be warm and safe.
“Why don’t they follow me?!” he exclaimed.  “Can’t they see this is the only place where they can survive the storm?” He thought for a  moment and realized that they just wouldn’t follow a human.  “If only I were a goose,  then I could save them,” he said out loud.

Then he had an  idea.  He went into barn, got one of his own geese, and carried it in his arms as he circled around behind the flock of wild geese. He then released it. His goose flew through the flock and straight into the barn, and wouldn’t you know…….one by one the other geese followed it to safety.

He stood silently for a moment as the words he had spoken a few minutes earlier replayed in his mind: “If only I were a goose, then I could save them!” Then he thought about what he had said to his wife earlier. “Why would God want to be like us? That’s ridiculous!” Suddenly it all made sense.

That is what God had done.

We were like the geese – blind, lost, perishing.  God had His Son become like us, so He could show us the way and save us.  That was the meaning of Christmas, he realized.

As he walked towards his warm home, his soul became quiet as he pondered this wonderful thought.
Suddenly, he understood what Christmas was all about, why Christ had come.  Years of doubt and disbelief vanished like the passing storm. He fell to his knees in the snow, and prayed his first prayer:

“Thank You, God, for coming in human form to get me out of the storm!”

JESUS IS THE REASON for the season!!

Rolo Candy Pretzels, Easy Toffee Bars & Puppy Chow Cookies

Our first two Holiday baking projects, included Rolo Candy Pretzels, and Easy Toffee Bars.  And, as the title states, it was SO easy.  The kids were great!  This is an excellent baking project for kids to help with, just watch out for the hot pan during the M&M part!

Look at Avery in this photo…….

She sure kept a sharp eye out for the other kids, to make sure they didn’t sneak any candy while she wasn’t looking.

The oldest two didn’t even try to sneak a piece, but of course, Avery tried to snitch a Rolo when she thought no one was looking.  Always pushing the limits, that one.  I kept a close eye on her after that! 🙂

Avery, hard at work….

For being such great helpers, they each got a Rolo Candy for dessert. Yummy!

Rolo Candy

Ingredients:

24 Mini Pretzels

24 Rolo Candies, Unwrapped (great job for the kids!)

24 M & M’s of your choice* (we did some regular, some PB and some mini)

*Or 24 pecan halves can be used instead.

1.  Preheat your oven to 350*.

2.  Place mini pretzels on a large baking sheet.  Top each pretzel with a Rolo Candy.  Place in the oven for 5 minutes, or until the Rolo starts to melt.  (Don’t melt them all the way, they will still look normal at the 5 min. mark)

3.  Remove from oven and lightly press an M&M to the middle top of each Rolo.

4.  Let cool before serving or transferring to a Tupperware.

Easy & Yummy!

Easy Toffee Bars

Ingredients:

15 Graham crackers

1 cup butter

1/4 cup chopped nuts, sprinkles or candy of your choice

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 bag Milk Chocolate chips

Heat oven to 400*.  Line a large baking sheet with foil, spray with cooking spray.  Arrange whole graham crackers in prepared pan, breaking some as needed to get them to fit.  Do this until the entire bottom is covered.  In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar and butter, melt and bring to a boil until foamy.  Remove from heat, pour over crackers and spread until covered.  Bake for 5 minutes, or until bubbly all over.  Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips.  When chips are soft, spread until smooth and evenly covered.  Sprinkle with toppings of your choice and chill for 30 minutes.  Break into pieces before serving or storing in fridge.

This next recipe took from 11 am when I started the recipe, to 8 pm when I packed the last cookie away.  No, it is not because I made a huge batch (just a double), or that it’s a complicated recipe. (just messy and time-consuming) It’s because I had no less than 1000 interruptions, a chocolate dipping sauce coagulation catastrophe, and a large break in the middle of the mess, to make & ingest lasagna, as well as a period of time where my mom came to visit, and took over cookie-dipping duty, while I bathed the children……

Otherwise? It wasn’t all THAT bad.  The outcome was worth it, these are delish!

Puppy Chow Cookies

FOR THE COOKIES:

2-½ cups Flour

1 teaspoon Baking Soda

1 teaspoon Baking Powder

¼ teaspoons Salt

¼ teaspoons Nutmeg

2 sticks Butter, Softened

1 cup Peanut Butter

1 cup Brown Sugar

¾ cups Granulated Sugar

2 whole Eggs

_____

FOR THE COATING:

1 stick Butter

2 cups Chocolate Chips

1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Powdered Sugar, For Rolling

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (F) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. In a large bowl, beat the butter until smooth, and then add in the Peanut Butter and beat until well-blended. Beat in the sugars and then the eggs, one at a time. Gradually beat in the dry ingredients.

Shape into 1-1.5″ balls and place on your cookie sheet. Use a fork to make the crisscross pattern on the cookie. Bake about 12 minutes. Store cookies in an airtight container. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

For the coating:  While the cookies are cooling, melt the stick of butter and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Stir until smooth, and then stir in the vanilla extract. After the cookies have cooled completely, dunk them in the chocolate. Then roll each of the cookies in the powdered sugar.

Make a GIANT powdered sugar mess, and roll your eyes every time you have to stop and wash your hands to answer the phone, help a child change dress up clothing AGAIN, or switch the washer load to the dryer.  Leave cookies out to set up before storing in Tupperware, with wax paper between layers.

*Oh, and eat 3 of the ugliest cookies to make yourself feel better about the mess you just made in your otherwise tidy kitchen.

Just don’t inhale as you bite….you might just cough for the next 6 minutes.  Not that I would know or anything, I’m just sayin’… 😉

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Tomorrow’s baking list include: a triple batch of Spiced Crackers and Caramel Candy Squares.

You should see my garage fridge….it’s over flowing with goodies just waiting to be put on plates and delivered!

Or, put in my belly.

I’m good with either option!

This Week’s Cravings

Keeping Christ in CHRISTmas

Christmas is rapidly approaching, and with it can come a sense of panic, a need to rush into town, push through the crowd towards near empty shelves, and snag those last few items on your Christmas shopping list.  Standing in long lines, being told “Happy Holidays” by the greeter as you leave, rushing around to prepare for office parties & family get-togethers, addressing Christmas cards, wrapping gifts, and on the busy-ness goes……

Somewhere along the way, the peaceful, quiet days of Christmas past were lost.  Somewhere along the way, Jolly Ol’ St Nick, stole the limelight from baby Jesus, and the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, replaced the leisurely gift shopping of days gone by.  Instead, it seems, we celebrate materialism, indulgence and the idea that we need more, more, more.

As a kid growing up, I recall knowing who Santa was, I think he even signed a couple of our packages under the tree a time or two, but I can’t EVER recall a time, that I didn’t know it was really my parents.

I have great memories of Christmas growing up, but you’d be surprised at the ones that stand out most.  I remember the year dad went back to college, and we couldn’t afford a Christmas tree, so we decorated our artificial fica tree instead.  Tiny red apples, red velvet bows and empty mini raisin boxes hung from its branches, and to my little girl eyes, it was beautiful!!!!!  There were very few presents under the tree that year, but I don’t remember thinking much of it. Mom kept us busy with special baking and craft projects, and dad kept us in hysterics on Christmas morning, sticking his new electic drill up his nose, stating it could also double as a nose hair trimmer.

As we got older and became teenagers, our finances changed, and my parents got more and more creative in their gift giving…..

One year we went on a family vacation to the Bahamas instead of getting gifts. Another time, Hawaii.  One year, we got cash to spend after Christmas at the big sales, teaching us the value of the dollar, and that it could be stretched much further, by waiting for a sale day to shop.  Another year, after my dad sold his trucking business, and things were incredibly tight, we did intangible gifts.  We wrote letters of appreciation to each member of the family, and that Christmas morning was not spent under a pile of wrapping paper and boxes, but quietly seated around the fireplace, reading those letters of love & affirmation to each other.
But, the Christmas that stands out the most in my mind, was not the tropical vacations, not the new boombox or new car…No, it was the year we adopted a family in need, through a local church. We were given an address to deliver our goodies to them, in person.

We all loaded up, driving further and further into the oldest part of town, until we arrived in front of a very humble home.  Arms loaded with boxes of goodies, we walked to the front door.  Once we were done with our “good deed” for the day, we could go back home and have our own Christmas.

We knocked on the door, and were welcomed in broken English.  Stepping inside, the first thing I noticed was the home was sparse in furniture.  Mattresses serving as beds lay on the floor, and open cupboard doors revealed they were indeed, bare.  My heart softened.  My “good deed” for the day, suddenly turned into so much more.

Oh, the joy on their faces as we unloaded box after box of groceries, clothing, toys and necessities.  I recall tears streaming down the mothers face, as she thanked us over and over in broken English.  The father reached out his work weary hands, silently grasping ours, tears in his eyes telling us how humbled and thankful he was for this, though no words were spoken.  Their children ran circles around the old sofa, the language barrier not stopping our interpretation of their squeals of excitement and joy!

Tears filled my eyes, as I looked at the space around me….thinking of the home full of stuff we had left just 10 minutes ago, the gifts waiting under the tree, the food filling 2 fridges. This families Christmas blessing, was my every day life……

I didn’t know a day without food.  I didn’t go to school without a coat ,because we didn’t have the money for one.  I never walked to a cupboard to find it bare.  We had so much, and they had so little.  Why did I even need the few gifts waiting for me, under the tree at home?

It was then I knew what God was showing me…….THIS is what Christmas is about.  Giving to others in need, showing them the love of Christ, not receiving!  Why, when I had such an abundance, did I need anything?  I became more convinced than ever that Christmas was going to be forever different at our house!

Fast forward 15 years,  I now have 4 little ones of my own, and the huge responsibility of establishing my families traditions….

From the very beginning Christmas morning has been Jesus’ birthday, nothing else.  We feel Santa “waters down” what we are trying to do with Christmas.  Our goal is to keep it about Christ, and His birth, and in striving towards this goal, of keeping Christ in Christmas, we chose to exclude Santa from any of our celebrations.

Don’t get me wrong, the kids know who Santa is, and that he is part of the general season of year. In fact, the older two, were playing reindeer and Santa the other night!

That doesn’t bother me a bit.

Neither does letting them watch the evening Christmas specials on tv, about Rudolph or Frosty.  What a special treat!  But there is one rule and requirement of evening TV watching……Commercials MUST be muted.  I can’t stand how they try to grab my kids attention and stir up the “greedy gimmies” with the ads for the “coolest toy ever“!

But, when it actually comes to Christmas day, does Santa have a part?

Nope, not around here.  We want Christmas Day to be sacred.  It’s special.  It’s a quiet, calm. A peaceful celebration of the birth of Jesus.  It’s not wrapping paper piled knee-high on the floor.  It’s not toy fire engine sirens, crying baby dolls and whirring helicopters, drowning out all other sounds of worship of our Lord and King…..the whole reason we celebrate in the first place.

On Christmas morning, you won’t hear shouts of “Santa came!”  Instead, shouts of, “It’s Jesus birthday!” are heard.  Followed by arguments about who gets to blow out Jesus’ birthday candle after we sing Happy Birthday to Him.

After reading the Christmas story, we give each child 3 gifts, representing the 3 gifts given to baby Jesus by the wise men.   Buying only 3 gifts for each child, keeps Dale and I in check, as we are doing our Christmas shopping, and allows the focus to remain on Christ, not the need for more, more, more.

Later, as our children get older, we will deepen the significance of these gifts, by assigning a meaning to each one:

Frankincense: A gift for spiritual growth.  (A new devotion book, Bible or Christian CD.)
Myrrh:  A practical gift.  (A new pair of jeans, a coat, a laptop for school, a car emergency kit.)
Gold: A gift that fulfills a want.  (An ipod, shopping certificate, jewelry, bike, MP3 player etc.)

We celebrate Christmas based on God GIVING us His one and only son, who later GIVES His life as a living sacrifice for us!   We want giving and not receiving to be the focus of Christmas.  This is why we choose to adopt a family in need, or participate in filling individual boxes, when our church adopts a local school.

What fun it is to stroll through the store, with each of my children clutching a paper in their sticky little hands, with a name…….a name of a special boy or girl, about their age, who we can be a blessing to.  I love to see their faces as they figure out that no, these new toys aren’t for them to keep, they have enough toys at home.  These gifts are for a little boy or girl, who might otherwise have nothing new at Christmas!

Granted, sometimes its hard to pack that giant bouncy ball, or sparkly nail polish in the box, for the other child!  But, it doesn’t take long for them to grasp, at their level of understanding, the kindness and love they are showing to another child.  To understand that Christmas is about giving to others, not asking, begging and pleading for the latest and greatest new toys.

It is my hearts desire for our Christmases to be SO focused on Jesus Christ, from my children’s first memory of Christmas on, that they don’t know it ANY other way!

Keeping Christ in Christmas goes much farther than a “Merry Christmas” greeting to a cashier, only allowed to say “Happy Holidays”.  No, it comes from you momma, as you set the tone of your home for each and every holiday tradition to come……

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Romans 12:2 (NLT)

Countdown to Christmas Advent-ure

The Meaning of “Advent”

“The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” Advent celebrates the first coming of Christ and anticipates his second coming. An Advent Calendar is a way to keep children involved in the entire season.”

The Count Down to Christ has begun!  Bringing the meaning of the season into your home, can be a real adventure, as we battle outside influences, including media, that try to make this time of year about Santa.  And what about those commercials, designed to set off the “Greedy-gimmies” in your children? No thanks!

This is our second year to have an Advent Calendar.  It was given to us by the kids‘ Great Aunt Esther last year, and we loved it! What a special tradition to start, and what a great way to remember what the season is about: Christ’s birth. This calendar will  help us keep our thoughts on Him this month, as we put up the next character of the nativity. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle the holiday tends to bring, and whether we mean to or not, Christ’s birth can take a back seat to holiday shopping and “To Do” lists a mile long!

The children will take turns putting up a character, and then pushing the music button, to hear a beautiful little rendition of “Silent Night” each night before bed.  This calendar is great, re-usable and very kid friendly! We love it!  It can be found here.

Also, this year, Aunt Gena sent the kids a Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar that you download on your computer.  There are animations for each night.  I did a sneak peek at her site this morning. (Shh! Don’t tell the kids!) It was darling!

To enter the site, we just click on the snow globe present on our computer screen:

Here is a picture of the Christmas Village:

The kids can hardly wait for tonight to come, so we can start these two fun Calendars!  It is our goal to keep our children focused on the true meaning of Christmas, rather than what’s in it for them, and these Advent Calendars are a great start!

 There’s no Christmas without Jesus,
It’s to Him our eyes should see.
Not to jolly old Saint Nicholas
Nor a glitt’ring Christmas tree!

Shops in town are decorated
Decked in colors bright and gay
Tinsel lights and shapes created
Merge into one grand display.

“There’s no Christmas without buying
Gifts and toys to give,” they say.
Oh, that they should be realizing
All these things will fade away!

Santa Claus is just a story
Reindeer never pulled his sleigh.
Why then, does he get the glory
On this sacred, holy day?

But a baby in a manger
Really lived in Israel:
He was born to be our Savior
It’s His story we must tell!

I will think of Christ this Christmas,
How He left His throne above,
Gave up all His heav’nly riches
For to manifest His love!

Take the tinsel and the glitter
And the ‘Santas’ all away
For God’s love is far, far greater
Than this man-made grand display!

Happy Monday!

Good-bye Fall break.  Hello, order and routine, bedtime schedules and homework!
Boy, the kids sure are missing big sister and daddy today!!!!!! What a blessing it was, to have had them both home from Wednesday on!

Not much going on today, just laundry, & catching up on housework from a busy holiday weekend.  I’d also like to sit down and work on my December menu, grocery list and Christmas baking list, but I am trying to be realistic here!!!! 🙂  The house is decorated and feeling Christmasy, so that puts me in a cheerful mood, no matter how many piles of laundry await!

As I told you Friday, we Saran Wrapped our tree last year, so I didn’t have to un-decorate it.  The un-veiling was a roaring success!  No spiders or creepy crawlers emerged as we unwrapped layer, after layer of Saran wrap.  And,Viola!  There was the lovely decorated tree from last year, just as nice as I remembered!  And without much ado, and about 20 minutes of fluffing, it was as if it had never left our living room.  TOTALLY Saran Wrapping it again for next year!  Here are some photos of the finished product…..

The living room……

 The Mantel…..

And last but not least, my little kitchen tree….

Have a Happy Monday!

The Big Reveal

Soo, tradition states that after stuffing our faces for a full day, and carting our kids from one amazing Thanksgiving shin-dig to the next, we stay home and be vegetables the next day to recover.  AND, tradition also states, that before the weekend is through, we will put up our Christmas decor and bust out the Christmas music. This is the part where Dale groans in agony…he HATES Christmas music, especially this early! What is WRONG with that man?

Hmm, do I hear a blog topic for another day???

“Things I Think Are Wrong With Dale”?

Naw!!! 🙂  We’ll leave poor Daley-poo alone……..in a minute.  First, I want to stop for a second, and show you a picture of him, taken as we speak:

Here is the love of my life, wearing a camo baseball hat, which BARELY holds to his head, the broken earpiece & mic to his precious Xbox game.  BAHAHAHA!  I love it! Talk about being a hickabilly!!!!  Getter done man!  Apprently, he stepped on it one day after he failed to pick it up, and now, this is the only way his headset stays on!  HAHAHA again!  This is the part, where’d I’d tell my kids that there are natural consequences for not picking up their things, like mommy asked, but since we are discussing my husband, and I love him to pieces, we are moving on! 🙂

Where was I?  Oh yes, Christmas music playing softly in the background, a fire roaring in the fireplace, a dim-lit family room so the tree really shines….. It just makes me happy! 🙂

But this year, will be a bit different.  This year,  instead of pulling my tree out of a box, assembling and decorating it……….I will be UNWRAPPING IT.  Yes, unwrapping!  No, it’s not a present, wrapped in beautiful holiday paper.

 It’s Saran Wrap.

Let me explain. See, last year, I was so excited about how my tree turned out (an interior decorator friend from church came and helped me do my house), that I just knew I would never be able to re-create the same look again.  So, I Saran Wrapped our Christmas tree (after removing the breakable ball ornaments), and had Dale & his dad haul it out to the shed for safe keeping.  Tomorrow is the BIG REVEAL!

Hello my pretty…..

Here’s to no spiders, mice, or other yucky creepy crawlers emerging with my lovely tree, from under the abyss of layer upon layer upon LAYER of giant restaurant quality Saran Wrap.  (fingers crossed) I will  be posting pictures later, if I am not too busy screaming and stomping spiders. (Please God, no!)

Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and are still on speaking terms with your family!  Oh, and that your jeans button this morning.  Ugh, totally a sweats day at my house! 🙂  Mmmm, turkey and pumpkin pie!

It was WORTH it!

Here are some photos from our Turkey Day….I am thankful to have Dale and my families living in the same town as we do. Our kids don’t know life, or holidays, without them!!!!

Unfortunately, I got zero photos from my family dinner this evening.  Too busy dealing with sugared up, un-napped, crazy kiddos I guess?!  Sorry.
