Corn Chip Salad & Another Paxton First

I am loving summer vacation!  All 4 of my babies home, fresh goodies from the garden, all different kind of delicious salad recipes to choose from and family dinner around the table with no looming homework, or early bedtime to worry about!

All our kids LOVE corn on the cob.  This is Paxton’s second summer here on earth, so naturally this summer is full of some new “firsts” for him.  I was SO glad I had my camera near by for Paxton’s first corn on the cob.  I had just used it to take a picture of the salad I am sharing today, and caught the whole thing.

  “Paxton, try your corn please.”

“Nooooooo, anything but that!”

“Please! I beg you.  I have eaten my entire salad. Don’t make me eat that weird thing on my plate!”

IMG_2655

“Paxton Clay! You will try it RIGHT NOW! Look at your siblings, they LOVE it. Now dry those tears and take a bite!”

IMG_2688IMG_2692IMG_2691

“Ok Momma. I guess I will try it, JUST for you.”

IMG_2657

“So how does this thing work?”

IMG_2664

“OH! Like this?”

IMG_2665

“It’s kind of hard to bite……”

IMG_2669

“What do you mean, that’s not the corn?”

IMG_2670

“This thing is so confusing.”

IMG_2671IMG_2672IMG_2673

“Pax, quit eating the handles, bite the MIDDLE!”

“OHHH! The middle, got it.”

IMG_2678IMG_2684

“Zike dis?”

IMG_2679

“Hey Destiny! See me doin’ it!”

IMG_2680

“See me, Daddy! I am doing it like you said.”

IMG_2679

“It tastes kinda funny.”

IMG_2686

“I am not too sure about this stuff.”

IMG_2687IMG_2681

“Yeah, I think maybe I liked eating the handles better.”

IMG_2685

“Daddy! Why are you laughing at me?  I’m pretty stinkin’ cute, huh!?”

IMG_2663

TOTALLY ADORABLE!  (Even in his sisters old purple ballerina bib with nap time bed head!)

  Now for the salad……

Paxton’s 2nd “First Snow”

This is post 2 for today, don’t forget to head back and check out Hearty Vegetable Hamburger Soup.

  So, we got our first snow of the season the Tuesday before Christmas.  It was not nearly as much as predicted, but we had a semi-White Christmas none-the-less.  {When I say “semi-white”, I mean there are a few patches left under shade trees. We left church Christmas morning with no coats, it was such a nice day!}

The kiddos thought it was really cool to go out on the screened in porch and write in it.

This all reminded me of last year, when Paxton was almost 5 months old. I blogged his first snow experience here, when we plopped him down in the snow for the first time, camera ready to capture his reaction.

Let me just go ahead and recap it for you.  It went something like this:

What in the world?

This big new World I am in has been strange so far, but this really takes the cake…..

Yeah, pretty sure I don’t like it.

Wait, what is this HORRIBLE stuff clinging to my hands?!?!?!?!

1061

Now, I reallyreally don’t like it!  Get it off!  GET IT OFF!

104

I want my MOMMY…….

At this point, he got so mad, he fell over: Things really went down hill after that!

  {Naturally, since he is my 4th, I got like 6 more photos of him bawling before rescuing him from his snowy demise…..}

WAAAAAAH!

AWWWW, my sweet little snow angel……

So anyhow, back to this year:  I’ll have to wait for more snowfall to take Pax out and photograph this years reaction.  Like I said earlier, we only got a trace rather than the BLIZZARD being predicted,(darn) BUT, I did capture his reaction from the window, when I showed him the snow the next morning.

One of my favorite things about parenting HAS to be seeing things anew through a child’s eyes.  There is just nothing like it!  🙂

Hmmm, something seems different today…..

006

It’s kinda brighter, is that it?

007

No buddy, that’s called Snow.

{Gasps}

009

Look Momma! SNOW!  I SEE IT, I SEE IT!

(It sounded more like ‘Uh uh uh uh, pffft”, but I knew what he meant….)

015

Do we like snow, Momma?

013

Let’s go play outside in it soon, ok Mom?

011

Sure hope it’s more fun than last year…..
