Wedding Bells

Wedding bells were ringing in Florida before we left…..Uncle Dan & Aunt Torrey got married on the country property we lived on.  They even asked the kids to bake their wedding cake.
Pretty awesome, right?  Come on over and celebrate their special day with us!

4 little Ferguson’s Wedding

You never know what the weather will do where we live, and this particular fall day, it was SNOWING!

This outdoor wedding just got a whole lot more interesting.

  The bridal party and bride and groom were total troopers, tramping around in the mud.0002 (1) copy0020 (1) copy0008 copy0015 copy0016 copy0041 (1) copy0088 1 copy0124 (1) blue sky copy0044 copy0072 copy0185 (1) copy

The groom’s family, and his friends, are AVID hunters. In fact, the brides gift to the groom was a handgun, so we were sure to get some gun shots for them, as requested.  Pretty neat! And don’t worry, we were very careful! 🙂

After much prayer, and last minute location decisions, the Sun came out just in time for ceremony. Sonshine, anyone?  Praise the Lord!
Good thing too, because not only did the brides parents build a GORGEOUS outdoor sanctuary, but she had a big entry planned for her groom!

The wedding was amazing, and their first kiss was shared on the altar!  True love, God’s way.

Due to the bad weather, we had to miss all of the couples part of the shoot, so Kalene and I drove back another day to wrap this session up. It was actually really nice to shoot without the pressure of the wedding ceremony start time looming.  706 1 vintage copy715 v copy716 copy724 copy733 copy714 copy738 vintage copy765 copy772 copy773 copy786 copy794 copy815 bw copy820 vintage copy

I second shot for this wedding as a favor to an oh-so nauseous pregnant friend. I am so glad I did. I LOVE vintage everything, so to get to edit these “vintage” made me so HAPPY!

Wedding Photos

Well, here they are.  The photos from the first ever wedding I’ve shot alone.  Remember, I was the coordinator and decorator for this wedding too, jobs I feel a bit more confident doing! I think I might have over-committed though, it was hard to run the show AND capture it too.  Thankfully Eileen (My mom in law) had her camera available and did some shooting too while I was busy helping the bride, and both she and my mom cut and served cake and punch for me.  (THANK YOU! Love u!)

Anyhow, the day went well.  I had some lighting trouble, which comes from me not knowing how to shoot on manual.  Remember I am still new to this world of SLR cameras!  I WANT to learn to use my camera to it’s potential, I really do, but WHEN?!  How can I squeeze one more thing into a day with already too few hours in it?

Needless to say, I just set my ISO and winged it.  Ugh.  Not a good idea.  The day was a really really overcast, but really really BRIGHT.  Does that make any sense? It was like, squinty bright, which means everything is too white to edit like I want. If only I had known to just go back to my normal, favorite, no flash setting, it might have helped. {SIGH}  Why do I get myself into these predicaments?

Good news is, this is the first of 2 weddings this couple will have; the 2nd being an AMAZING, BIG one in Thailand.  AND, they already had a super duper amazing photo session done there, so the pressure was off a bit. (which is why I agreed in the first place)

Moral of the story?

I’ll shoot your party, I’ll shoot your kids, I’ll shoot the occasional family or senior session, but I will NOT be shooting any weddings alone.  2nd shooter with Whitney, yes. Alone, no.

Without further adieu, here are some of my favorite photos of pre, during & post wedding…..

Wedding Bells

My baby brother, Chad (FINALLY) proposed to his girlfriend, Lauren, a few weeks before our Florida trip.  She said “Yes! It’s about dang time!”  (Ok I am not for sure that’s what she said, but I bet I am close…)

YAY!!!!

After much debate, they decided to get married while we were in Florida.  Meaning they planned the entire thing in…….

20 days.

Can you IMAGINE?!?!??!

They did this so we could be a part of it, bless their hearts!!!!!  They knew there was no way we could save up to fly back again this year.  Lauren pulled it off, and it was AMAZING! 🙂

  They asked our children to be part of their big day. They, of course, were thrilled.  Lauren’s wedding colors, Fushia & Tangerine Orange, were the ones I had picked out for my wedding 10 years ago, but I guess I was ahead of the trends, because back then we couldn’t find anything in those 2 colors, and people looked at me like I was NUTS! lol 🙂  To say I lived vicariously through Lauren would be a small understatement, I had so much fun sending her cake and flower pictures using those colors. And, she let me pick the little girls flower girl dresses! {squeeeeeeeal}

I immediately began scouring bridal sites….too expensive and too fancy for an outdoor Florida wedding.  Then, I remembered Etsy, my favorite new addiction.  I hit the JACKPOT, praise the Lord, finding a gal on there who would sell me a 3T fushia and tangerine tutu with matching headband for $20 AND custom make me a matching size 7-8 with flower clip for $25 by Monday (it was Thursday I do believe).

And boy, did she deliver!  These tutu’s are made from an excellent quality tulle and the hair accessories are well made.  I HIGHLY recommend her!   Check out her shop here at Caroline’s Boutique, and please tell her Tonya from Kansas sent you.

Proof that I should’ve taken my children’s photos BEFORE the wedding rather than after:

(But who has time for that when trying to do hair and get little people dressed between afternoon naps and a 3:00 ceremony!?!??!)  🙂

Considering that we were drenched in sweat by this point and ready to go inside, they did very well.

SO close, thanks Ty!

I tell ya, the more kids you have, the harder it is to take a good family photo!

Oh well.

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Bontrager! We are SO happy for you two!
